The Moonfly brand was born from one of those random, magical coincidences that life throws at you. Picture this: it’s the summer of 2024 August 19th, to be exact. A massive blue moon is lighting up the night sky. I’m sitting at an outdoor café, laughing with friends, and I point up at the moon. Right at that exact second, a fly lands perfectly on the tip of my finger. It looks up at the moon, completely starstruck, and just chills there for about 30 seconds while I freeze in awe. Then, poof, it flies away. On my walk home that night, the idea hit me: the "Mosca da Lua" AKA Moonfly. Her name is Marylin the Moonfly. She is our Brazilian brand ambassador, and her stage name comes from a deep love for Frank Sinatra’s "Fly Me to the Moon," back when Marilyn Monroe was the ultimate icon of American cinema. Marylin is totally obsessed with the moon. Her ultimate dream? To fly around up there. So, when the Apollo 11 mission came along, she saw it as her ultimate lunar hitchhike. It was 1969, and Moonfly packed her bags, left Rio de Janeiro, and flew straight to Miami. What followed was an epic, secret space odyssey—one that was only ever whispered about between one of the astronauts and Mission Control in Houston. Waiting until the absolute last second before the spaceship doors sealed shut, Marylin snuck on board. She was wearing her own DIY space helmet, crafted with the skills of a true Rio Carnival Pro used to making her own wildest costumes! As the rocket blasted off into space, Marylin realized her dream was finally becoming a reality. She knew this was just the beginning of another wild adventure into the unknown—just one of many that already packed the pages of her diary. Word on the street is that she actually did fly on the moon, but the CIA covered up the rest of the story the second she got back to Earth. Moonfly brings back the bold geometric patterns that ruled the '60s and '70s.
